Diets

At the moment I am currently reading (skimming through) ‘The sweet poison Quit Plan’. This then lead me to think about the various other, get your life in control and loose weight, eating plans that i have read about or heard about.  It did bring up a valid point (in what I have read so far) about moderation. Quite often I hear the phrase, and have used it myself, ‘everything in moderation’. What the book had to say about moderation was that one person’s view of moderation might not be another person’s idea of moderation. How true is this and then, what is the right ‘moderation’.

I don’t believe we should eliminate everything from our diet. The book talks about fructose being the biggest cause of obesity, and yes, i can see where they are coming from with this.

{Fructose = a simple sugar found in honey and many ripe fruits}

When you eat a ripe apple, this will have fructose in it, but it will also have fibre, a variety of minerals and vitamins. It isn’t just the juice you are getting but all the good stuff that comes with it. The book doesn’t say not to eat fruit, but it is more the fruit juice, the concentrated version you buy in the shops, that is the baddy for you.  So, fruit on it’s own, unjuiced and still full of nature’s goodness, and should be fine for you to eat.

Bribie Beach Bash 2010

What a load of fun this was. It isn’t over the top, lots of bright colours and flashy prizes type event, but a close and personal type of event (and it’s growing!). It is held yearly, on the surf side (eastern side) of Bribie Island.

Bribie Beach Bash this year saw a lot more competitors then the previous years with most runners able to enjoy the dolphins playing in the surf as the runners dashed across the sand.

This year I chose to do 10km, instead of the 6km I did last year, and it was about the 6km mark this year that I was feeling it and wondering why i had chosen the longer event. The run was nice, the weather conditions perfect (slight drizzle at the beginning but it fined up to light cloud cover later on). The sand was also firm underfoot and the beach slope wasn’t as angled as last year. There was one creek crossing about 500m from the turn around point and it was cold, and flowing fast. It definitely added a twist and a break to the run. At about the 7km mark I finally got into the run, found myself and started singing the same 4 lines to a song, over and over in my head. In the end, I came in 2min under my chosen finishing time, so I was happy with that, but also understanding that there was so much more I could have put into this if I had been training regularly. I definitely would have felt better at the end instead of drained. I guess this is what I get for ignoring my training and being sick, moving house and generally letting life get in the way (which included sleeping lots).

Angels

angel_back1Angels are everywhere, helping us when we don’t deserve it, when we are faced with a job too big just for one, and when we are worn out.

Angels don’t need to be the dressed all in white, with white feathery wings springing from their back, but they can be the type which are disguised as friends, strangers with a kind word, and that miraculous escape. They are the ones who are there when you need them the most whether you know it or not. They are put into your life, and even if you don’t believe in God, you can still see the sense in what I am saying.

I have seen evidence of angels lately and I thought I would point them out, just to show you how everyday they can be.

Example 1 – Our next door neighbour’s son was involved in a pretty bad accident a couple of weeks ago, with his front passenger seat ending up behind the drivers seat. He did sustain some bad injuries, which landed him in ICU for 2 days, but he was out of hospital within a week. According to what I heard, he shouldn’t have been here, especially with the damage the car sustained. Even his mother agreed someone was watching over him that day.

Moving House

We are moving house, and shall be a little busy for a couple of weeks.

A little news about us : #2 child broke her elbow and is in a sling for 5 weeks; #3 child had her 9th birthday, saved up for and bought a kids camping kit from Aldi; we are on school holidays; we are moving (gee what a big job); and lots of other fun stuff I can’t think of right now.

Bread

Bread is my Monday night, it is what i head out at 4pm to get and what I usually end up with at home by 7pm. Lately there hasn’t been a lot of bread coming from the bakery and I have been having to make the hard choice of which family to call and apologise to for having no bread. There has only been one Monday in the last few months where i haven’t had to call anyone, and that was the time our church asked for bread and then we had an abundance, more then enough for everyone.

Tonight was the smallest load ever. I visited 2 families for a tiny drop off at each, had my eldest take a cob loaf to each of the houses in our street and we were left over with something to accompany dinner tonight.

Sometimes I wonder if it is worth it, as it is a 3 hr block of time out of my day when I could be doing other stuff. Admittedly it includes a trip to our mail box which is a 20minute drive, one way.

I know it helps people, and there are families who need it, otherwise why would they be receiving the bread? I also know that they appreciate it, and the little chats we get to have. It is one of my socialisation times, plus it is building relationships with people, it’s not just about the bread, and I guess that is what makes it worth it in the end. But gee, I would just like to get a load which could do everyone, like the good old days, 2 years ago.
